Quito was our first sheltie. Once we had decided that we definitely wanted a Shetland Sheepdog we e-mailed several breeders on the availability of puppies. We met up with a local breeder (Karen Costelloe – Karmidale) and once she was happy that we would make suitable parents for one of her pups we were on our way. We went to meet Sophie (Quitos’ mum) before the puppies were born and fell in love with her sweet nature. We waited impatiently for the birth date to come around and when the due date came Dale was so excited that he sat up most of the night waiting for news of the birth via the internet. Quito was born in the early hours of June 5th 2004. His name had been picked weeks in advance but by an incredible coincidence on channel 4 racing that morning they announced a non-runner at the Derby meeting that day, you guessed it, QUITO…!!! From 2 weeks of age we visited every week and took pictures of him. Eventually the time came to bring him home.
He has been a joy to us ever since. He loves anybody and everybody, is very intelligent and very gentle.
Although he was bought solely as a pet Karen convinced us to take him to a couple of open shows to see if he liked it. He was unplaced but appeared to love being in the ring, so we continued to do the odd show.
Months later we were pleasantly surprised when he was placed 3rd at both Windsor and Richmond Championship shows.
By now Ludivine had caught the show bug and so took great delight in buying a new suit to proudly show Quito at Crufts.
Quito has now matured into a lovely, gentle and beautiful adult and has many talents! He has taken up agility and as he loves it, we're hoping to take part in a few competitions locally. He's also a PAT dog since 2007 and enjoys visiting the residents at our local nursing home. He loves showing although, being a bit stubborn by nature, he tends to decide when he wants to show in the ring!! He is also infatuated with playing ball, with it even taking priority over everything else. His eyes just light up at the thought of going to our local park and playing ball.

Bouba was born on the 29th September 2005 and is a full brother to Quito. He came to us in November 2005 and quickly found his place with Quito and Milo. He was Milo's play mate and cuddly bear too. Bouba was a naughty little puppy, very often chewing paper and cardboard or stealing socks (which I think is a typical sheltie trait!). He and Quito took a bit more time to understand each other but they soon became very close friends, particularly after Milo left us. They now happily play together, chasing each other or playing with a ball. We can't recall ever hearing a grumble between them (even in the middle of the girls seasons!).
Bouba is a very intelligent, docile little fellow who loves learning tricks, chasing Quito and scratching you until you pick him up for a big cuddle. He's sometimes unsure about new things but soon learns to cope with them and always seem to check with us that he's doing the right thing!

In the showring, he did well as a puppy and after a long time away following a serious injury, he came back in March for another try. He's slowly gaining confidence and although not as confident in the ring as his brother, we are hoping he'll carry on maturing nicely. He has started Obedience training with Luds at home and we're hoping to find him a heelwork to Music class as he loves working!

He has become best of friends with the girls and they all enjoy play fighting or tugging in the garden. His favourite thing, chasing the tennis ball so that Quito can't bring it back to us and has to chase him around!
